Blind Review

HomelandI generally don’t have time to enjoy everything.  Who does?  So sometimes I rely on the collective unconscious of us all to inform me about the things I’m missing out on.  It’s not a perfect science, but it does save me some time.  So with that I’ll attempt to review things I’ve never seen or heard, and you can be the judge if I nailed it.  This is Blind Review.

Homeland

Yea so if the info I’ve gathered via osmosis is right, then I think I might pass.  Let me get this straight.  It’s a about an American soldier who turns into a terrorist and his relationship with the FBI agent that tracks him down.  And at some point he becomes an ally but really isn’t and then they want turn him into a senator and possibly president?  All the while Claire Danes is having a panic attack and falling in love with him.  Who am I supposed to be rooting for again.  This sounds crazy. I’m out.

The Newsroom

This show seems pretentious.  So let me get this straight, it’s about a news show, and it’s based a few year back so it can cover things that already happened.  This sounds like a decent idea in practice but when you realize that means they’re never on the wrong side of any story, because inevitably they know what happens, it loses its luster.  Also in the commercials they seem very serious all the time.  While I think news is certainly serious I’m sure there are more light-hearted moments than they might lead you to believe. I mean I’m pretty positive that most news shows probably have a pretty long reel of bloopers.  So yea this show seems like it’s probably on too much of a high horse for me. I’ll pass.

The Mindy Project

I never watched ‘The Office’. Let’s just get that out of the way.  So I’ve only seen Mindy Kaling in interviews and what not.  To me she comes off as someone we’re led to believe we have to think is funny.  What I’m trying to say is, she may or may not be funny, but if you don’t say she is, then it muddles all your other opinions. It’s like the move ‘Bridesmaids’, which was funny, but there was a bit of self importance to it.  I get it Mindy Kaling is a minority, a woman, and more womanly looking than hollywood usually casts, so maybe her success is a good sign of progression, but I guess I just don’t like such self aware progression.  With that I can’t really see myself enjoying this show.  Shows that are created by the lead actor are rarely good in my books, with Seinfeld being the exception because he pretty much made himself the worst person in the world.  Which is to say, you better be self-deprecating if you’re going to make a show about you.  Another pass.

That’s it for this installment of the Blind Review.  When I have more things I haven’t seen and want to review them with no actual merit, I’ll be back.
