Instant Coffee: Dunkin Donuts as Harbinger of the Apocalypse

Dunkin Donuts has taken over every street corner in NYC. They now want to make a Tywin Lannister-like power move and make sure that sandwiches like KFC’s Double Down, don’t take the cake for “Worst Idea Ever” forever. Starting June 7th, on National Donut Day, Dunkin will be enveiling their Donut Bacon Breakfast Sandwich. This monstrosity will basically be a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich with a split, glazed donut as the bun. Whomever thought of this cannot even be pretending this is good for the world. Will I try it? Yes, but that is because I need to know what I’m up against.

I just watched Wall-E last night, and After Earth over the weekend. We are a good 20 years away from either future (we are in the Idiocracy currently).

There Goes The Neighborhood: Bushwick Gets A Mall?

So Bushwick, Brooklyn is getting a Mall. Yea. That Bushwick. The one with Roberta’s Pizza, and factories, and warehouse parties. It’s getting a mall. It’s going to be just a few short blocks from Roberta’s, Arancini Bros’ Rice Balls, and The Green Fitness Studio (awesome gym btw). I hate myself a little bit for thinking “there goes the neighborhood,” but that’s how I feel, and I’ve been told feelings can’t be wrong. But seriously, I can’t imagine what the world, much less Brooklyn could use with another mall. In my opinion, malls are where dreams go to die. Local businesses have written to the brokerage firm responsible for selling the building, Massey Knakal, asking that the mall respect the local small business vibe of Bushwick, but that remains to be seen. I can only imagine that if its going to be a mall, it’s still going to be a typical one. It’s going to have your Auntie Anne’s and FYE’s and all those other things we don’t need.

I’ll only be ok with this if there is a Taco Bell in the food court.

Top 3 Pros and Cons of Living Alone

PROS

1.) PANTSLESS

Before I even wash my hands, my pants are off. Who need pants? They’re constricting, I’ve been in them all day, and enough is enough already.

2.) NO ANNOYING ROOMMIES

No dirty socks under the couch, no crying bitches, nobody stealing my clothing and ruining it,nobody insisting we watch “The Bachelor” or “Dancing with the Stars”(sorry Mom), and nobody bitching about my house guests.

3.) JUDGEMENT FREE ZONE

I can watch Teen Mom for hours with nobody there to witness it. I can eat like a full grown man with no pants on and nobody is there to witness it. I can pee with the door open, cook with no shirt on, and sing to myself and guess what? Nobody is there to witness it.

CONS

1.) NOBODY IS THERE TO JUDGE ME

I wouldn’t be as likely to do 90% of the things I do at home if I had a roommate. I’m human, and I totally care what people think of my laziness levels.

2.) COOKING FOR ONE

The hardest task ever? Yes. You’re either cooking way too much, or not enough and then what do you do? If you don’t make enough you’re going to have to make a second dinner? A fourth meal? Life is hard.

3.) TRYING TO ZIP A DRESS

The worst one. Can I not wear dresses because I live alone? Should I go out with it half zipped and hope one of my drunk friends can just finish the job? Stressful in an understatement.

Remember how hard it is to make eggs? Yea, I know. It’s a real nightmare. I wish there was a way I could cook eggs, but not deal with the extremely problematic difficulty curve. There must be a way I can have my eggs, and eat them to. What? Are you telling me that the Rollie Eggmaster is the answer to my prayers? Are you telling me it makes all the eggs I can eat (as long as its one or two eggs) in a phallus shape, and all I have to do is pay upwards of $30 for it? SIGN ME UP.

A$AP Rocky ft. Skrillex – Wild For The Night (video)

A$AP Rocky’s album finally came out a few months ago, and met the lofty expectations I had for it. The Harlem rapper shows he’s connected to the right people, but also shows that he knows how to make a solid crossover. This album satisfies “real hip hop fans” as well as people who just like fun music. This video is a great example of A$AP’s all-quadrant appeal. It also doesn’t hurt that the Skrillex beat is one of the better beats produced in the past year. Check out the video. It makes me think about what Dipset could have done if they crossed over into mainstream relevance (beyond “We Fly High).

Epic Music is Epic: StarWaves by M83

Well M83 is back at it making music that can only be defined as Epic. The potential sleeper hit film Oblivion, coming out April 26th, has been scored entirely by M83. This can only be seen as a good thing. Why? Well because Joseph Kosinski directed Oblivion and he also directed Tron: Legacy. Say what you want about that film, but the Daft Punk scored soundtrack was excellent. It hit all the right beats, and elevated an average film, to an above-average film.

Because Kosinski got his start making music videos, it’s my guess that he feels extremely comfortable with electronic artists creating the atmosphere for his films. It worked once, so why not again?
