TV Upfronts ’14-15: The CW

I‘m going to try my hardest not to be glib. The CW is still a pointless venture, but it’s one that actually is trending up.  Supernatural is a show that people seem to unironically like.  The Vampire Diaries is their biggest hit, and The Originals proved to be a worthy spinoff.  If you look closely, you’ll see that The CW isn’t just about pretty white girls in a city anymore.  It’s about pretty people of ALL races (though mostly white) in space, or that are vampires, or superheroes.  They’ve embraced Genre-specific to a tee, and it’s working.

Canceled Shows: The Carrie Diaries, Star-Crossed, The Tomorrow People

New Shows: The Flash, iZombie, Jane The Virgin, The Messengers

The only show I can see will likely see a second season is The Flash.  It has spun off from the loins of Arrow, so that gives it good-will.  iZombie sounds interesting and is also a DC Comic, so maybe?

Failures?  When the bar is so low, who knows.  I’d guess the show about a teenage girl who gets accidentally artificially inseminated (for laughs) will meet a quick end.  The Messengers is a toss-up.

Who cares though.  The CW is in the business of not-caring about adults think.
