Survivor: Blood vs Water Episode 6 Notes

Premiere

Redemption Island

Before Jeff Probst can ask Ciera whether she is willing to take her mother’s place, Laura M. cuts him off and says not a chance as she is certain she will win the challenge and would never allow her daughter to take her place anyway. She comes off as completely confident without being cocky. She backs it up easily in her first Redemption Island duel as she finishes in first. The challenge includes walking across a balance beam, untying bags on the beam without falling off, and lining up the numbers in the bags 1-100 in numerical order. Naturally, she has an advantage in balance over John and Brad Culpepper. She has also proven she is great at puzzles in the game. She will definitely be a force to be reckoned with the rest of her time on Redemption Island. The battle for second comes down to the wire but John slightly edges Brad. It is disappointing to see Brad eliminated. He is an enjoyable Survivor to watch. He plays hard but is completely humble and respectful when he is eliminated. Unfortunately, he doomed himself by playing too hard too fast.

As Laura finished first in the challenge, she decides to give the clue to a hidden immunity idol to Vytas. Laura believed that Aras was her close ally in the game. As he betrayed her, she wants to put the target on his brother Vytas. However, Vytas immediately throws it in the fire following Monica Culpepper’s lead the last two episodes. After the duel, Jeff also reveals that there will be a tribe swap. The new Galang tribe is comprised of Vytas, Tina, Katie, Monica, Laura B. and Kat. The new Tadhana tribe includes Gervase, Tyson, Aras, Caleb, Hayden, and Ciera.

Galang

The biggest winners in the tribe swap are Tina and Katie. They are the only loved ones that are on the same tribe. In the rarest of situations in Survivor, they have complete trust and faith in each other. While Tina loses her strongest and influential ally Aras, the bond between a mother and daughter is unbreakable. Laura B. is also a winner in the swap. She was the outcast in her tribe before it anyway. As such, things might as well be shaken up for her as she can try to build a relationship with new tribemates, Vytas or Katie. Monica is still in a good position as Tina is in her core alliance and Katie is sure to double Tina’s votes in the tribe. The loser in the swap is Vytas. He had power on Tadhana. On the new Galang tribe, he is an immediate outcast and target as the only man on the tribe. Nevertheless, he is crafty and a brilliant social player. He is personable and genuine about his failures in the past, especially his drug addiction. Consequently, he is able endear himself to the women.

Tadhana

Gervase and Tyson are in a decent spot as they are able to go into the new tribe as solid allies. Aras is a loser in the swap. First, he is disconnected from his two most loyal allies in the core alliance, Tina and Monica. Next, he did not get on the same tribe as his brother. Finally, he does not know Gervase and Tyson are out to vote him out before he can unite with his brother. As the three original Tadhana tribe members are much more willing to vote out Aras than Tina and Monica, he is in a much weaker position. Caleb and Ciera are in similar positions but may be able to form an alliance with Gervase and Tyson. Hayden is a slight loser. He loses his closest ally Vytas. However, he is not an immediate target. On the other hand, the original Tadhana tribe members show their inexperience as they spill the beans on what happened in their camp to Gervase and Tyson. Hayden and Caleb are also foolish enough to tell Gervase and Tyson the clue to the hidden immunity idol.

A funny moment in the episode is when Gervase, Tyson, and Aras start eating the food of their new tribe. Hayden is upset with it but wisely holds his tongue so he does not become a target. Tyson is comical in regards to his strategy with the food. He wants to eat all the food of his new tribe but still fake that he is sharing. For example, he secretly drinks half of the juice in a coconut before he gives it to the other five members of the tribe to split. He hilariously explains that his goal is to be lazy but do enough so he is not perceived as lazy.

Immunity Challenge

The tribes need to swim to fishnets, untie them under water, and bring them back to shore to put together a puzzle. Laura B. and Tina make a huge mistake for Galang to start the challenge as they swim out, release the fishnet, but do not realize they need bring the fishnet back with them. Nevertheless, Galang is able to make up the time and actually put together the puzzle faster than Tadhana. Unfortunately, they get it wrong twice. As such, Tadhana overtakes them in the end and wins the challenge. However, Galang would have had more time and tries to get the puzzle correct if Tina and Laura did not make their huge blunder.

Tribal Council

Kat makes a fatal mistake after the challenge. She does not like that Monica strategizes a lot and tries to get support to vote Monica out. Unfortunately for Kat, she does not know she was never in the majority alliance. When she approaches Tina with the idea to vote out Monica, Tina immediately tells Monica. Survivor is a game of timing and she moved against Monica too soon. If Kat did nothing, Vytas would have been an easy vote as the tribe is afraid of him teaming up with Aras at the merge. Laura B. would have been the likely next target after Vytas. If Kat was more patient, she could have potentially made it to the merge with her loved one, Hayden, waiting for her. As Kat loses the trust of the women alliance, she is unanimously voted out. I never thought Kat had a chance in this season and her terrible gameplay again proves it.

Fall of Aras?

Gervase and Tyson are out to get Aras. The preview for the next episode shows them rallying their new tribe members against Aras. Tyson has already subtly put ideas in their heads in this episode that Aras is controlling and an intruder. However, the preview is so blunt about it that I tend to believe that Aras will definitely survive a bit longer.
