OH SHES JUST BEING MILEY

Ever since she cut all of her hair off, everyone has been hating on Miley. Most people don’t trust her because of all the child star meltdowns that have happened in the past and I’m here to tell you, I understand. Your apprehension and skepticism are noted but you might be wrong about this one. Miley was always annoying. Hannah Montana? Murder me. That movie when her (now/maybe) fiancé fall in love and her father dies? Completely horrendous. There are however, a few things that Miley does right. She can twerk, she can sing**, and she can grow up like all of us did (or are doing) at some point.

Remember in high school, when everyone dressed from the same stores and if you were an individual you were pegged as a “loser”? Then, you went off to college and within a month you had your own style, your own taste in music, and you were beginning to form your own opinions. That’s what Miley is going through right now. She’s not trying to be anybody else; she’s just finding her individuality. Hannah Montana was her high school where she was told what her image had to be and if she didn’t keep up with that, she wouldn’t have a career. She made a graceful transition from child star, to tween idol, to a young adult pursuing music that she wants to create. The media forgets that she is only 20 years old and attempts to peg her as “out of control”. Do you remember what you were doing and where you were in life at 20 years old? Most people I’m sure, were not put together and established at such a young age.

Miley has been getting a lot of criticism lately about her new single “We Can’t Stop” (which by the way is an absolute Summer JAM). Critics have claimed that she is now into drugs because of a few lines in her songs that were misinterpreted. For example, “we like to party, dancin’ with Miley, doing whatever we want” was spun into “dancing with Molly” and to be honest, it sounds similar. But do you really think if she was tripping on Molly she would state that she was dancing with it in her song? Potentially, but I don’t think she’s that dumb. Referring to yourself in third person isn’t cool either so I’m unsure which one I’d rather be the truth. Either way, who really cares what she says, it’s a great Summer song that I’ve already overplayed on my iPod. It’s catchy, fun, and carefree which is exactly what Miley is trying to be (minus the catchy). And to the very few people who have had an issue with her twerking, you’re just jealous. I know you are because you can’t twerk like Miley can. Instead of taking it out on her, why don’t you just practice in your mirror every night like I do? I think that will both eliminate the hate and sharpen your moves.

Miley is not the next Amanda Bynes or LiLoh, she has the potential so just stop being a dick and give her a chance. LEAVE MILEY ALONE

**Skills of which she did not acquire from her father, Billy Ray Cyrus.
