You wouldn’t be wrong if you assumed that all child stars have a meltdown at one point or another. Screech, Macaulay, Britney Spears, and the infamous LiLoh are just some examples of this.
Amanda Bynes is rapidly making her way onto this list. And to you Amanda, I say– girl, what happened? Three years go by and all of a sudden you’re about to lap LiLoh. You’re taking topless photos, throwing bongs out of windows, shaving half of your head, and suing anyone in sight? What happened to the innocent (but funny) girl who starred in “All That” followed by “The Amanda Show”? When Britney did it, I kind of understood because she was a crazy to begin with and when LiLoh did it, I really understood it because her parents are insane but Amanda, I just don’t understand.
I can imagine why being a child star leads to a public meltdown. You’re constantly being followed, criticized, and scrutinized for every move you make. The stress alone can easily cause you to spiral out of control but, what happens when you’re not in the spot light? It’s true to say I don’t know Amanda Bynes’ life, I don’t know her, but I do know she hasn’t really done much since 2010 when she played the Jesus freak in “Easy A”. So where is it all coming from? The answer? Twitter. Twitter has made its way from boring status’ throughout the day, to the latest news on virtually anything around the world. Bynes has made her presence known in the Twitterverse, especially last week. She has lashed out at the NYPD, Jenny McCarthy, Rihanna, Chris Brown, and Courtney Love (just to name a few). It’s difficult to feel sorry for someone who brought this onto themselves. I begin to wonder if this is just a ploy so that she can go “seek recovery” and then make a strong comeback and blow everyone out of the water. She has probably considered that if Britney can do it after her meltdown, then so can she. My point is, this entire meltdown didn’t have to be public and she is the only one making it that way. She’s asking for it and at this point, it makes me question her motive. Bynes’ mugshot was released last week and in it she was rocking a shaved head. Eerily similar to the shaved head Spears was rocking back in the day. Now fast forward to Britney now; she’s judging, performing, and she’s almost back on top (I said almost, who knows if she will get there).
The upsetting thing about Amanda Bynes is that she is better than this. Unlike LiLoh, Screech, or Nicole Richie she has (or had) talent. She made a graceful transition from child star, to teen comic, and then almost made it to an adult funny lady. She was so close and now she’s just too far away. Have you seen “She’s the Man”? If you haven’t, I suggest you load it up on the ol’ queue because it’s too good to miss and one of my favorite guilty pleasures. Amanda Bynes wasn’t afraid to be goofy and/or judged and that’s what made her funny. Now every recent photo that has been released of her there is a Twitter uproar and she attacks. She’s very focused on her “new” nose and adamant about all photos of her “old” nose being removed from social media. So something has happened, in the past three years and I’m sure there will be a special on it in a few months after she gets arrested again and does 40 hours of jail time. My advice to Amanda (as if she would see this)? Lock it up, get it together, seek help, or do whatever you need to do to stop being a crazy because people are counting on you to play a very unbelievable boy for a two hour film.
