It was a very exciting and entertaining episode. We see a quit, great and terrible moves from the same player, and a blindside. I have a lot of thoughts on everything so it is time to get started.

Lindsey’s Quit

After Cliff is voted out at Tribal Council, Lindsey is clearly on the ropes as she is clearly on the wrong side of the numbers. As Trish and she have clearly been at odds with each other since the start of the game, Lindsey knows she is in trouble. On the other hand, Trish has been on the bottom and is finally in a power position. Accordingly, she cannot stop herself from rubbing salt in the wounds of Lindsey. In Lindsey’s defense, Trish is very annoying. Even watching Trish afar from the television, she has an irritating voice and irksome laugh that drives me nuts. Combined with the loss of her closest ally Cliff, Lindsey has had enough and separates herself from the rest of the tribe in the middle of the night. In her isolation, she decides to quit and has a conversation with host Jeff Probst. She states that she needs to leave before she does something to Trish that she will regret. Usually, Jeff hates quitters and lectures them on the shame of quitting. In this situation, he is very understanding. As a result, it begs to question what may have happened off screen that night between Trish and Lindsey. Regardless, I hate to see Lindsey quit. It is a tough game physically, emotionally, and mentally. However, only a select few get to play the game. Except for a medical condition, I will never support a player’s decision to quit. There is too much that can happen in the game for Lindsey to give up. If her tribe wins the next couple of challenges, she can make the merge and try to join the players on the other tribe. In addition, there are often twists that completely change the game.

At the reward challenge, the Aparri tribe sees that Cliff and Lindsey are both gone from the Solana tribe. The departure of both are great for Tony as they are the only ones that could prove Tony was lying about Cliff and Lindsey conspiring against Sarah. On the other hand, Sarah and Alexis are way too happy about not seeing Cliff and Lindsey. It is obvious that Sarah is allied with the Brawn and Alexis is allied with Beauties on Solana that won the power struggle. Accordingly, Sarah and Alexis reveal to their current Aparri tribe that they cannot be trusted and must be eliminated before they can reconnect with the players on the other tribe. The reward challenge is an interesting one. The players go one on one with another player on the other tribe. The reward is that two members of the winning tribe return to the losing tribe’s camp and raid some items. During one of the rounds of the challenge, Morgan faces Tony. LJ makes a hilarious comment when he advises Tony not to look into Morgan’s eyes so he does not get mesmerized. Of course, Morgan is breathtakingly beautiful and I would definitely have trouble focusing on the challenge going against her.

The Peaks and Valleys of Tony

The Solana tribe wins the reward challenge. Tony and Woo go to the Aparri beach to raid the camp. They also get a clue to the hidden immunity idol on the Solana beach [that LJ has already secretly found]. In this moment, Tony comes up with a brilliant idea. He lies to the Aparri tribe by telling them that they have a clue to give to one member of the Aparri tribe. They know that Jeremiah is the biggest physical threat on Aparri. Accordingly, they publicly tell Aparri that they are giving the clue to Jeremiah and put a target on his back. Even though Jeremiah figures out Tony’s scheme and tries to explain it, both Alexis and Spencer do not believe him. It is a very creative and smart move by Tony. On the other hand, it is downhill for Tony from there for the rest of the episode. He is so thrilled by his move that he brags about it to his Solana tribe. It is very foolish. It shows the tribe that he is very intelligent, which puts a target on his back. In addition, he admits to Solana that he is actually a police officer instead of a construction worker. Unlike his original Brawn tribe, Tony likes and feels a connection with the current members of the Solana tribe. He wants them to be the final 5. However, to be so transparent about his schemes and deception is crazy. Besides Trish, it does not look like the other 3 members of the tribe feel the same way about Tony that he feels about them. While Tony definitely thinks his profession as a police officer is mind boggling information, it is trivial for everyone else. Admitting his dishonesty may also lead them not trusting him as he appears to be a pathological liar that will lie about anything. LJ’s reaction demonstrates how terrible Tony’s moves are. First, LJ admits that he did not know Tony is so sharp and strategic. Accordingly, he will now keep an eye on Tony as a major threat. Moreover, he makes an astute point by observing it is an odd tactic for Tony to admit that he lies all the time in order to gain other people’s trust.

Tony’s blunders continue in the immunity challenge. First, he stumbles in his part of the challenge and almost puts his tribe in a hole too big to climb out. Nevertheless, it always comes to the puzzle and the Aparri tribe just cannot figure it out. When Solana wins, Tony is exuberant and shouts that they will be the Top 5. It is a bonehead move. First, there are 7 members on the other tribe. His Top 5 is outnumbered. In addition, it will be difficult to convince a member of the Aparri tribe to switch if the best his alliance can offer them is number 6. Moreover, Sarah was committed to him as an ally. However, she is scorned by Tony proclaiming his Top 5 and she is not among that 5. It is just never smart to announce your alliance to everyone else.

Aparri Tribal Council Blindside

Due to the seeds planted by Morgan earlier in the season that Jeremiah tried to vote Alexis out and Tony setting Jeremiah up with a farce clue, Alexis completely distrusts Jeremiah and wants him voted out. Accordingly, she approaches Spencer and the Brain tribe on the plot. However, she reveals herself to be a strategic player. In a confessional, Spencer deduces that Alexis is much more strategic than she tries to appear. Accordingly, she reveals herself as a threat by her aggressive moves against Jeremiah. Nevertheless, Jeremiah and she clearly have alliances with LJ and Jefra on the other tribe so they are both targeted. Sarah has connections to the Brawn tribe. However, her anger against Tony’s Top 5 boast convinces Aparri that she is no longer with the Brawn [or at least in comparison with Alexis and Jeremiah]. In the end, Alexis votes for Jeremiah but the rest of the tribe blindsides her. She is devastated by her elimination and is in tears as she walks out of Tribal Council. It is refreshing to see a contestant so passionate about the game, especially in an episode where another player quit. It is the correct move for the Aparri tribe. Of the three people (Alexis, Jeremiah, and Sarah), Alexis is the most likely to return to her original alliance. Moreover, she is clearly strategic. Sarah is actually a stronger player but she did not reveal it to the tribe. It should be interesting to see if Tony can convince her that it was only over exuberance or an act that he declared his top 5 without Sarah in it. A merge is coming and she is the swing vote. She will decide which alliance prevails. However, the idols that LJ and Tony have will also be a major factor, especially considering no one knows they have them.

It is also interesting to see the Brains thriving. They were a complete mess before the tribe swap but they have complete control of Aparri. Kass made one of the best comments in the episode. She notes that they were always the Brains. However, they had no one to boss around when it was only Brains. They now have a body [the rest of the tribe to do their bidding].
