Redemption Island: Mothers United

The duel is between Vytas, Tina, and Laura. It involves knocking blocks out of a long, tubular net. There are different color faces on each side of the blocks. As such, each contestant needs to solve the puzzle and insert the blocks so that only one color appears in each column. Laura is great at challenges and easily finishes first again. While Vytas tries to glance over at Laura’s completed pieces to get an idea of how to complete it, she stands in front of them to block his view. In addition, she instructs Tina on how to finish the puzzle. Tina is completely lost before Laura’s guidance. As a result, she would have lost to Vytas without the help. Instead, she beats him by a second. Of course, Vytas is justified in being upset with Laura. Nevertheless, there are no rules against it and he did try to glance over himself. While it may be unethical, Laura’s aid to Tina is not illegal per the rules of the game and Vytas is eliminated. He is an excellent player in the game. He is a fascinating person and plays the game hard. He is definitely someone I would like to see play again. As Laura won the challenge, she gives the clue to the Hidden Immunity idol to her daughter, Ciera. Of course, she burns it again. However, no one is aware that Tyson already has the idol anyway. As such, having the clue would have been pointless and attracted unnecessary attention.

Hayleb Coup and Ciera’s Decision

Hayden comes up with a plan to vote out Tyson and Caleb is on board. There are seven players left and four of them are loved ones. As such, they confide with Ciera that they can bring in Katie and vote out the returning players one by one starting with Tyson. I absolutely agree with this movie. Tyson is in the top position at this point. If any of them want to win the game, they need to vote out Tyson. Survivor is about timing and Hayden picks the perfect time to strike. The plan is brilliant. Even though they do not know it yet, they would also vote out Tyson with a Hidden Immunity Idol in his pocket.

While Ciera appears thrilled with the plan, she stays on Tyson’s side and privately scurries back to him to inform him of the plot. Moreover, it shows how control of the game Tyson is that someone would so readily disclose such crucial information to him. I believe Ciera made the incorrect move. She has a great chance to get to a final three spot if she takes the deal. In addition, she has a much better chance to win the game against Hayden and Caleb than she does against Tyson and Gervase. On the other hand, she is weary of joining Hayden and Caleb as she is fearful that she cannot trust players who change their alliances and minds so quickly. While Hayden is trustworthy, there is some merit to her assessment as Caleb turned on Brad Culpepper on a split second whim during tribal council. Accordingly, I do not completely blame her for not just trusting the two.

In addition, Ciera is not in terrible shape. She is still primed to make it to the final three. She basically saved Tyson’s game. As such, he will feel more obligation to bring her to the end. Moreover, he mother is still on Redemption Island and she is the favorite to make it back into the game again. If Laura returns again, they can team up to eliminate anyone in the game. If Laura does not return to the game, Ciera’s next play needs to convince her other two tribemates be to vote out Tyson right before the final tribal council if does not win the final immunity. It would not be a tough sell at that point as the other players must know that Tyson has the best chance to win if he makes it to the end. In addition, Laura is automatically a jury vote and advocate for Ciera on the jury in the event that Laura does not return from Redemption Island.

Immunity Challenge

The offer before the challenge is intriguing as the players can choose to eat a barbeque feast if they do not compete for immunity. Tyson, Gervase, and Ciera all forego the challenge to eat. The decision is very telling as it shows that all three are united to the dismay of Hayden and Caleb. Moreover, it shows Tyson that Ciera is truthful in telling him that Hayden and Caleb are plotting against him as they do not feel comfortable enough in their alliance to sit out. The challenge itself is a battle of strength as the players need to hold on to 25% of their body weight weight for as long as they can. When I saw what the challenge was, I knew that Monica would win. She is built like a rock and will outlast any of them. It plays out exactly as I imagined as Hayden and Caleb succumb to blisters while Monica is never in danger of letting go. While the show has focused on the other players, Monica is a challenge beast and will be a factor in the end. However, it does not appear she has a legitimate shot of winning with her current edit.

Countermove

Hayden comes up with a unique countermove as he wants to ask Tyson if he plans on blindsiding him or Caleb. At first, I am flabbergasted. However, he has a great idea in trying to sell Tyson that they only targeted him because they believed he was targeting them. Moreover, Hayden wants Tyson to believe that Ciera put the idea in their heads to drive a wedge in between the guys. It is a brilliant attempt to try to turn the votes on Ciera. The only other option is to prey on Monica’s insecurity and promise her final three to vote out Tyson. While it may have worked, Monica has been unpredictable. They probably did not want to put their fates in her hands. In addition, the show has not portrayed much of a relationship between them and Monica. As such, I assume that they do not have one and it is too late to try to build one in the 11th hour to try to save their original plan.

Tribal Council

At tribal council, Jeff Probst calls out Tyson, Gervase, and Ciera for being so secure that they were willing to eat. Tyson makes the great point that he is confident in his alliance but surprised that his allies did not feel the same as he looks in the direction of Caleb and Hayden. At that point, it is clearly between Ciera and Caleb on who will be voted out but you can feel it leaning towards Caleb’s demise. Moreover, Tyson guarantees his survival by playing the Hidden Immunity Idol. In Tyson style and a hilarious scene, he pulls out the wrong object and dumps out his entire bag before finding the actual idol. I did not agree with playing the Idol. It seemed obvious that the plot against him failed and it was between Caleb and Ciera being vote out. As such, he burns the Idol. He also reveals that he had it and is no longer protected by it. As such, it will be easier for him to be targeted in the next tribal council. Nevertheless, we only see a portion of the events in the game. If there is any doubt he will make it to the next day, he needs to play it. It is a critical vote that should get him through the next two or three votes as it also reveals to him who he can trust.

In the end, Tyson believes Ciera and they vote out Caleb. With Gervase and Ciera clearly on his side, Tyson is in complete control of the game right now. Hayden will and is going to appeal to the fact that the others cannot beat Tyson in the final Tribal Council.
